1. Wind the mechanical watch every single day.
Buying a mechanical watch in Malaysia is not easy. Thus, once you get your beloved timepiece,
you need to learn how to take care of it well. It may be expensive, but it’s okay to wear it every
day. It is really constructed for use every single day. Storing it for longer periods of time can
cause it lubricants to congeal.
2. Avoid extreme temperatures.
Don’t just go from one extreme temperature to another. This causes the parts to expand and
damage the watch movement, as well as lead to condensation inside its case.
3. Avoid shocks.
A mechanical movement is created with precision. Shocks may cause these parts to break.
Timepieces must not be worn while biking on cobblestones, chopping wood or while golfing.
4. Always be careful of the glass.
Keep in mind that there is no such a thing as “scratch-free glass.” Despite what the watchmaker
claims, scratches may happen on the watch’s glass if you are no careful. Don’t lay it upside
down on chairs and tables.
5. Avoid magnetism.
Old watches are the most sensitive ones to magnetism. Your mechanical watch may be new, but
still, don’t let it too close to mechanical devices like fridge magnets, smartphones and
loudspeakers. If you think your timepiece is affected by magnetism, take it to a reputable
watchmaker to demagnetize it.
6. Wind it at the exact same time each day.
This is probably one of the most important mechanical watch care tips that you should follow.
The timepiece works best when winded each day with consistency. It is highly recommended to
do it every morning.
7. Avoid showering and swimming while wearing the watch.
Your mechanical watch wouldn’t survive showing. It can deal with a bit of rain, but it wouldn’t
survive showering and swimming activities.
